Parker & Covert LLP wishes everyone a fun and safe Fourth of July celebration!
Independence Day, known colloquially as the Fourth of July, is a holiday which commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, establishing the United States of America. Two hundred fifty years ago, the Declaration of Independence was adopted unanimously by the Second Continental Congress in Philadelphia, whose delegates represented each of the original thirteen colonies. The first public readings of the Declaration occurred simultaneously on July 8, 1776, at noon in Trenton, New Jersey; Easton, Pennsylvania; and Philadelphia. The signed copy of the Declaration is on display at the National Archives in Washington, D.C., and is generally considered the official document.
